Follow Our Progress

September 22nd 2003

Becky and I started out the day by picking up some thin foam insulation to fill in the windows that are now blacked out.

I put some blue foam strips between the foil backed foam and the window to hopefully keep the foil from scratching off the black paint if the foam shifts around or vibrates.

I cut a square center section and put the ends in separately since I didn't think I could freehand the shape of the window.  It took a few small pieces here and there to make a tight fit, but I think it will stay put.

I added strips of 1x1/4 lath. over the whole wall area.  I attached them to any structural metal I could find and then made sure that I had at least 1 of them every 18  inches or so along the top.

I broke about 6 bits in the process and after trying to switch to my only remaining (smaller) bits, started breaking the heads off the screws.

Becky headed off to the dump to empty the utility trailer that was overflowing, and she made a trip to the store on her way back to get me some stronger drill bits.

While she made the dump run I worked on getting the metal strip back in the center of the ceiling and putting the light fixtures back up again.  We replaced all of the old screws with shiny new ones.  Once we polish the metal strip, it will all look new again.

Our new floor plan just happens to work PERFECTLY with the stock lighting fixtures in there original locations.  Three in the front half, one in the bathroom, one in the laundry area and one in the back bedroom...  Couldn't have turned out better.
