| The front porch was a masterpiece. All of the decorations
came together and really made it creepy. Almost none of the
kids came to the door to knock. Those that did ran like hell
when we activated the skeleton. We put a small section of skull
lights along the ground in front of the porch. There was a
small cauldron of candy suspended by a skull & bones support over a
fake flame.
The entire porch was lit only by the flame beneath the cauldron
and a 36 inch black light. We added "scratches", hand prints
and lettering to the walls and coffin using liquid detergent that
glows bright blue in black light. We also misted the detergent
on the skeleton to give it a faint blue glow so that you could see
it in the coffin.
The coffin was set off to the side of the door facing the
trick-or-treators. When we would spot them in the hidden
camera, we'd hit the switch on the pneumatics for the skeleton and
yell something into the sound system. The sound system was
connected to the skeletons electical so that it's jaw moved in time
to your voice. We also had a green spotlight hidden in the
foot of the coffin that was activated when the pneumatics went off.
The result... We had a lot of candy left over from
Halloween <grin>. Click on the next link to see what the kids
