Home Past Haunts Projects Links About

July 13, 2006

It's been a little while since I have had time to update this website.  I've taken on 3 projects at once and have not had the energy or time to do any real work on this years haunt since last month.

The more of the solid wood panels that I create, the less I like them.  They take up quite a bit of space and are way too heavy to move around or store easily.

I've been thinking about creating something a little more like a stage panel - the light weight kind used in theatrical productions.  Basically a canvas covered frame with the details painted on instead of built.

the solid wood panels are OK looking, but not very "scary" in the way that I would like.  I like more of the style of my sketch, so I picked up some paints today and will be trying this weekend to see if I can make something that looks similar to the sketch that I like.

The final panel will have to be relatively quick to build and paint and needs to be able to hold up to the outside weather...

I'm not sure how I am going to pull it off.  I've never tried to paint a fake wood panel on landscape fabric before.  If I can paint the panels so they at least look pretty good in low light then I'll be happy.  The weight and bulk of the real wood panels is just too much to deal with, especially since i plan to expand the haunt every year.
