September 18th 2006

I've been bouncing around on projects a lot lately.  I have a lot of things that are in progress.  The weather has been fickle, so I do as much outside work as I can when the weather is nice.  Today the weather was pretty good - not rainy like the past few days - so I jumped into one of my bigger outside projects...

Here is a sneak peek at the latest Halloween project.  I'm just getting started, so I have not figured all of the details out yet.  I'm creating a coffin for the graveyard.  It's built out of hardwood pallet boards.

I managed to finish quite a bit of it today.  The coffin back is cut at an angle and when the coffin is complete it will be leaning back quite a bit as well.  Hopefully it will look like it is coming out of the ground.

The plan is to house a fog machine, speakers, lighting, skeleton and pneumatics inside the coffin so I can make it appear that the skeleton is trying to break out of the coffin.

Tomorrow I hope to get the remaining side pieces and lid completed.  The entire assembly needs to be mounted to a base that will keep the coffin from tipping over and provide a platform for me to work on a transition from grass to coffin that looks somewhat believable.
