I'm still sick... Today it was unseasonably cold and with my cough and
runny nose it was a pretty miserable day. I did manage to get some work
done despite my lack of energy.
| The entry hall of the haunt is basically done. We're missing a
couple of portraits, but we could open just the way that it is and
nobody would notice. It's the darkest haunt I have done so far.
Even with the emergency lighting on it's downright dark and you have to
know where you are going or you end up walking head-on into walls. |
 |
| Here's a shot of the same hallway with the flash on so you get some
idea of how much there is to look at. There are three 5 watt lights
illuminating some of our changing portraits, the little light coming off
those spots lets you see some of the other pictures. |
 |
| One of my pop-up props is complete. This is what the guests
get to have suddenly appear beside them in one of the hallways. It's a
modified grave jumper. Basically the same with a bit longer throw
and newly designed piston bracket that makes it so you can use the parts
that come with a standard screen door closer instead of having to
manufacture the parts from L brackets. I'll be updating the grave
jumper plans with the changes once the haunt is done and I have a break
between openings. |
 |
| Just a little something behind door number 7. There's going to
be a lot of surprises waiting for our guests when they wander through
our haunted house. |
 |
| Al has been working really hard on his dot room. He's got a
couple of doors to build along with some additional black lighting.
It's coming along and should be pretty cool once it's all done. |
 |
| the window box scare got some finishing touches. The skull
mask glows in the dark and with the addition of a strobe and some air it
makes the whole scare come together nicely. We'll see how effective
this one is... |
 |
| The central actors area is done. There are 6 different scares
that can be performed anywhere in the first half of the haunt from this
room. It's lit by a single red bulb which helps the actors see and
adds a cool effect to the drop panels hidden in the hallways of the
haunt. |
 |
| A new prop for me this year. I call him the leaning zombie.
He's a PVC frame filled out and pneumatically animated. The
simplest pneumatic prop I have built to date and one that (if
successful) I will be writing up a how-to about when I have some time. |
 |
| Today I did some work on one of the many closet doors. You
just can't have pretty doors in a haunt now can you? This door
contains yet another pneumatic pop-up...
Sorry, I can't share everything, so I'll post more detailed photos
after Halloween. |
 |
| Another door that needed some work. All of that chainsaw carving
I've been doing has really paid off. I'm getting pretty good at
making holes that look like something just couldn't wait to get out...
...or perhaps it's still in there? |

Everyone that comes for a tour says that they can't believe that we crammed
so much into a 12x55 foot trailer... Remember that this is just the
haunted house that's located roughly 1/3 of the way through a haunted trail.
We've stocked up on adult sized diapers <grin>...
